Mental Skills Development Seminar
To be presented at the EDP camp by Michael A. Warech, Ph.D.
Research in sport psychology, self-management literature as well as other disciplines in psychology have demonstrated the importance of mental skills for achieving consistently high levels of performance.
This seminar will identify these psychological skills, provide examples, and discuss tips and recommendations for assessing and enhancing these mental skills. The seminar will describe each mental skill and, specifically, how each influences an athlete's effort, longterm motivation, and ultimately individual and team success.
Athletes will be introduced to the vocabulary and concepts required to understand and improve the mental part of their game.
Following the presentation, athletes will have an increased awareness as to the importance of the psychological aspect of their game, and also an enhanced ability to recognize the mental skills that facilitate better on and off-the-field performance.
Coaches present for the seminar can learn how to speak to their athletes about these habits and make recommendations for improving their athletes' mental approach to the game. In addition, they will have an increased understanding of and ability to utilize mental assessment data and developmental techniques to improve both individual player and team performance.
